Did you know that the tea found in almost all tea bags on the shelf of your local supermarket is stale even before you pick it up?  Did you also know that the paper used in those same tea bags is bleached with chemicals, and that one of those chemicals is chlorine?

 

Harney & Sons uses unbleached, silk sachets to bag their teas, allowing the tea to expand fully during the brewing process. The ability of the tea to expand fully is most important when trying to brew a flavorful, full bodied tea.

Did you know that tea has a shelf life? Most teas found in a bag in a supermarket are stale before they hit the shelf because the air is allowed to circulate around the tea.  Loose Black tea has a shelf life of about a year depending on exposure to air, loose Green tea has a shelf life of 6 to 9 months.  Tea in a bag has a shelf life of a couple weeks.

 

Harney & Sons, in an attempt to keep their tea fresh, wraps a selection of their most popular teas and a few new blends in vacuum packed Nitrogen flushed packages.  This procedure keeps the tea fresh until the package is opened.
