Harney & Sons offers a wide variety of green teas sure to suit any palate. From the Vegetal, bold, brisk green teas of Japan and India to the delicate, mellow, complex brew of China there is a tea for everyone. Some of these teas are blended with different flavors from all over the world and some of these teas are perfect just the way they are.
Simple Black Teas are called Simple because they are not blended with anything besides tea. Some of these teas are traditional blends and have been drunk in certain regions of the world for hundreds of years while others are new to the tea world blended exclusively by Harney & Sons. Some teas brew a bold, brisk tea and are perfect for milk and sugar while others are mellow enough to be drunk without them.
Mike and John Harney travel the globe gathering the essence of different cultures just so that they can bring you the flavors of some of the worlds most exotic and beautiful cultures. Flavored black teas are infused with fruit and different flowers making the tea smell just heavenly. One could easily see themselves relaxing on the street side cafes of Pairs while sipping the popular tea blended in honor of its namesake.
Brown Tea is called brown because it is half way between green tea and black tea. Tea starts our green and then in the fermentation process the leaves oxidize causing them to turn dark. The longer the fermentation is allowed the darker the leaves are. Green tea is fermented only a little bit, brown tea is fermented a little longer and black tea is fermented the longest. Brown teas or Oolong teas are generally mellow in flavor but not vegetal.
Did you know that the majority of caffeine found in tea is released from the leaf within the first two minutes of brewing? This is how a lot of lower quality teas are decaffeinated. Unfortunately most of the flavor also is released within the first minutes. This is why a lot of decafs seem to have a weak washed out taste to them. To combat this washed out taste that is found in lesser quality teas Harney & Sons uses a special process using liquid CO2 to decaffeinate their teas. This process strips the tea of caffeine but leaves all the flavor in the leaf until it is brewed.
Contrary to popular belief there is no tea leaf in Herbal Tea. Herbal teas are blended from flowers and herbs but there is no tea leaf and because of this there is no caffeine in any herbal tea. Harney & Sons has brought together a unique combination of herbals to give you a wide variety of flavors. Herbal teas generally tend to be very flavorful and most of them are fruit flavored.
White teas are blended from the baby leaf of the tea plant. The leaf is picked before it unfurls and so it is a very mellow brew. One the rarest and most time consuming teas to grow it brings a sweetness and lightness to the brew not found in the more mature hardy leaves.
