Herbals, tisanes, caffeine-free infusions... whatever you call these relaxing brews, you have to agree that the combinations of leaves, seeds and berries are all a delight to savor. Historically tea was imported from the South East Asian part of the world and so was too expensive for the majority of the population of Europe. But that didn’t stop the masses from enjoying a hot cup on a cold day. Instead they used herbs and flowers grown in their gardens. Even the early colonists took great delight in the herbal brews especially in response to the boycott on English imported tea and the high taxes placed on it. Take delight in the herbal brews… they are flavorful and have no caffeine.
French Verveine, or Lemon Verbena leaf makes a smooth, almost buttery brew with just a hint of lemon. Harney imports some of the best verbena from France. The large green leaves brew an unusually full bodied yellow brew with a fragrant nose.
