June 20-27, 1997, marked a special time in world history. President Bill Clinton of the United States and seven other world dignitaries met at The Fort in Denver for a world peace meeting. Harney & Sons was quite honored to be asked to create a special blend of tea to be served to the world leaders at their summit. Imagine the busy luminaries pausing just long enough to sip this special blend of eight teas. Strong enough for milk and sugar the way most of the world drinks tea but just right for the Americans who usually do not. This is one of the most historic blends Harneys has created.

Known as The Tea Drinking Queen she introduced Charles to tea. Tea became fashionable in high society but only the wealthy could afford it. With Catherine’s death the country’s interest in tea died as well until the Dutch East India Trading Company reintroduced it to Europe. This tea, created in her honor by Harney and Sons, makes a brew similar but slightly less brisk than the English Breakfast.

A blend of four teas, this is a softer version of Smoky Lapsang Souchong. This tea is reminiscent of the teas that were carried by camel across the Asian deserts to Russia.

Pu-erh is a simple black tea that comes from the inland region of China in the Yunnan Province. Historically this tea was grown inland and then carried through the forests towards the shore in large earthenware containers. Once at the shoreline the containers are then buried in the ground for anywhere between 5 months to 5 years. What is particularly special about this tea is its reputed anti-cholesterol properties. The process that this tea goes through before being brewed gives Pu-erh a distinguished earthy quality and taste with a full body and aroma.
